Chronic Tension-Type Headache Criteria
The International Headache Society (I.H.S.) classification system {Cephalgia 2004;24 (Suppl 1)} for chronic tension-type headache requires the following:
A. At least 15 headache days per month for 6 months fulfilling the criteria in B and C
B. At least two of the following:
- Pressing/tightly (non-pulsating) quality
- Patient able to maintain mild or moderate activity (i.e. not severe - incapacitating)
- Bilateral location
- Headache not aggravated by walking stairs, similar routine or physical activity
C. Both of the following:
- No vomiting
- Only one of following:
- Photophobia (light is uncomfortable)
- Phonophobia (noise is uncomfortable)
- Nausea
