Episodic Tension-Type Headache Criteria
The current International Headache Society classification {Cephalgia 2004;24 (Suppl 1)} for episodic tension-type headache requires:
A. At least 10 headaches fulfilling criteria B-D, but less than 15 headache days/month
B. Headaches lasting from 30 minutes to 7 days
C. At least two of the following:
- Pressing/tightly (non-pulsating) quality
- Patient able to maintain mild or moderate activity (i.e. not severe - incapacitating)
- Bilateral location
- Headache not aggravated by walking stairs, similar routine or physical activity
D. Both of the following:
- No nausea or vomiting related to headache
- Only one of the following:
- Photophobia (light is uncomfortable)
- Phonophobia (noise is uncomfortable)
